What is a Brazilian Blowout

Brazilian Blowout is a term that began in America and it’s also the brand name of another straightening product, although it’s not made in Brazil. But it’s also become a name for the treatment in general, as it begins to appear in more salons around the world. Other popular names include the Brazilian Blowdry, Brazilian Keratin straightening and Escova Progressiva.

Brazilian Blowout vs Brazilian Keratin Treatments

So many different names. What’s the difference between the Brazilian Blowout, Brazilian Keratin Straightening and Escova Progressiva?

Basically not much. Since its development several years ago in Brazil, Keratin treatments have been given a variety of names. In Brazil it’s known as Escova Definitiva, Escova Maroquina, Escova Liss and of course Escova Progressiva.

What type of hair does Brazilian Blowout work on?

Keratin straightening is recommended for all types of hair – virgin, coloured, highlighted, previously straightened, kinky, curly, and wavy. It really doesn’t matter and it actually works best on treated hair, although everyone will notice a profound and fabulous result.

What is Keratin on Black hair like and does it work?

Absolutely yes. If your hair is already relaxed, the Brazilian Blowdry system will work to maintain its effect, adding a natural look and feel. New growth will be straighter and less frizzy. Used alone, Brazilian Keratin straightening products work progressively over successive treatments to create a softer, shinier finish compared to harsher relaxing treatments. How long does the Brazilian Blowout last?

The beautiful thing about Zene Progress Brazilian Blowout is that it lasts a long time. Your first application should last between 2 and 3 months. After that, with repeated use, you can expect to enjoy the fabulous results of Zene Progress for up to 4 months at a time. The results get better with each application, hence the Progressiva part of the name!

 

How do I prepare for a Brazilian Blowout?

Yes. Before applying any Brazilian Keratin hair straightening product we suggest using a clarifying, or anti residual, shampoo. This will strip your hair of grime and product residue, making it more absorbent and receptive to Keratin. Once applied, there are a number of different shampoos, conditioners and masks you can use to prolong the results. You can see a range of them here.

Is Brazilian Blowout dangerous?

Absolutely not. Zene Escova Progress contains no harmful substances such as Formaldehyde.

Although the use of Formaldehyde in ‘Brazilian Blowout’ products is allowed in America, it’s use is actually banned in Brazil. Companies must publish a full list of ingredients on the packagingby law and submit them for Government testing. In fact, Zene Progress has a certification number awarded by the Brazilian Ministry of Health and it’s compltely safe for use at home or in any salon environment.

Can I use the Brazilian Blowout at home?

Until now the hairdressing industry would have you believe getting a Brazilian Blowout was a difficult business. In truth using Zene Progress couldn’t be easier. It’s not much different to applying any deep conditioning treatment, although it may take a little longer, usually between 2 and 3 hours.

What is the Brazilian Blowout System?

Keratin is a natural protein which occurs in hair, skin and nails. It’s a repairing substance, which comprises approximately 88% of your hair. Used as a hair straightening product it penetrates individual hair follicles, repairing damage and coating it with a resilient protective layer which naturally straightens and adds shine.

Keratin is high in sulphur and the amino acid cystine, which make it tough, elastic and insoluble. When used on human hair it ‘repairs existing damage’, leaving it straighter, healthier and less prone to frizz.

Is the Brazilian Blowout safe to use at home?

Absolutely. Application is very easy and because it contains no harmful chemicals you don’t need any special equipment to apply Zene Progress. It is a Formaldehyde free Keratin based conditioning treatment and is simple to apply.

 

Can I use Brazilian Blowout with other treatments like the Japanese straightening system or a Relaxer?

Yes. You can use Zene Progress over any straightening product. Results will appear more natural and blend with existing effects. New growth will be softer and more resilient. However, not all Keratin straighteners are as effective and some may damage your hair if it’s been relaxed, so we suggest you check with the retailer before buying.

Is the Brazilian Blowout a Relaxer or a Straightener?

Neither. The Brazilian Blowdry is more like a protective coating for the hair. That’s why it’s way better than the Japanese thermal conditioning because it doesn’t change the structure of your hair in any way.

Think of Brazilian Keratin Straightening more as a very deep conditioner, that leaves your hair straighter, healthier and less prone to frizz.

 

Can I use Brazilian Blowout Keratin on coloured hair?

Yes. But for best results we suggest waiting a week either side of using Zene Progress in combination with a colourant.

Can I have a Brazilian Blowout with relaxed hair?

 

Yes. You can use all Brazilian Keratin straighteners over previously relaxed hair.

Can I use Brazilian Keratin straightening on chemically treated hair?

Yes. You can use Zene Progress over any chemical treatment.

When can I wash my hair after a Brazilian Blowout ?

Yes. Once you’ve waited the full term you rinse off the treatment with plenty of warm water.

How much does a Brazilian Blowout cost in salons?

This is a difficult question to answer. We’ve heard of stylists charging up to $800 (£400) for a single treatment.

How will my hair look after the Brazilian Blowout?

Your hair will be frizz-free, healthy and effortlessly manageable. You’ll be free to blow dry hair smooth and straight in a fraction of the time you do now.

Will the Brazilian Blow Out affect my hair’s natural volume?

No, your hair will retain it’s natural volume. It will also be more receptive and easy to style. Hair memory improves and styles stay put longer.

Will my hair return to its natural condition after Brazilian Blowout Keratin straightening?

Yes, over several months your hair will return to its natural state, although new growth will be fortified and feel softer.

Can I swim or go in the sea after a Brazilian Blowdry treatment?

Yes, salt and chlorine aren’t good for hair and the same is true of Keratin. However, a Brazilian Blowdrywill protect your hair and work as a natural defence against the harmful effects of swimming, whether in the sea or pool. To maintain the effects of Brazilian Keratin straightening if you’re a regular swimmer, we suggest complimentary Keratin enriched conditioning products and wearing a cap.

I have very frizzy hair, when can I apply a second Brazilian Blowdry treatment to create a really smooth finish?

Brazilian straightening is basically a deep conditioning treatment, so it won’t harm your hair to use a second application as soon as you like. However we suggest waiting between 7-10 days as the treatment will still be active for several days after application and still be working.

How is Brazilian Keratin straightening different from the Japanese system?

While Yuko, or Japanese hair straightening breaks down the structure of hair leaving it permanently changed, the Brazilian straightening method is only a temporary treatment which fades with time. Japanese straightening can leave the hair dull and lifeless in appearance, while Brazilian Keratin adds shine and gives a healthy look.
