After a Keratin treatment, how long should I wait before washing my hair?
It’s one of the first questions that spring to mind when you’re considering a Keratin treatment,
Here’s why you need to wait.
A Keratin straightening treatment is only a temporary solution to de-frizzing your hair, and the results gradually fade over time.
This is caused by various elements, including weather conditions, air humidity and most importantly, the number of times you wash you hair.
A good product should give your hair a smoother appearance for between 30 and 40 washes, but of course this depends on exactly how often you wash and what shampoo you use.
A quick tip on what shampoos to use
A Keratin enriched shampoo, like the BioExtratus Queratina range, will help prolong results and you should always avoid hair products that contain salt (sodium). These are geting cheaper, and easier to find, so no real need to spend a fortune on these by the way.
The reason for the 2-3 day wait before washing is to allow maximum absorption of the Keratin into your hair. So even when you’re using a same day Brazilian straightening product, you should wait a minimum of 48 hours before applying any shampoo to you hair, to allow it to do its work.
Depending on how often you wash your hair directly affects how long results last, so if you’re the kind of person who washes your hair every day you can expect the application to fade quicker. If you’re just the 2-3 times a week type, your Keratin treatment will last much longer.
If the thought of waiting so long between washes fills you with dread, the good news is that using a Keratin-based straightening product adds exceptional shine and resilience to your hair, repelling grime and preserving a glossy finish.
Your hair literally won’t need washing as often, because it’s protected from many of the elements that make it dirty, dull and lifeless. It’s literally infused with vitality.
